Jason McSherry will run for Kosciusko County clerk seat in May 6 Republican primary election.
Sharon Christner, current county clerk, can not seek another term. Christner served as county clerk from 2001-08.
Duties of the county clerk include overseeing the county clerk's office and elections.McSherry, 29, Burket, said he is running for county clerk to ensure Kosciusko County residents receive prompt and courteous service.
"I've been exposed to politics since I was a toddler, and been intrigued by the electoral and political process, and felt it was a good opportunity to run for county clerk," McSherry said during an interview Tuesday.
McSherry currently is employed by Creighton Brothers Crystal Lake Egg as an assistant production supervisor.
Although McSherry said he has never been a politician himself, he has been exposed to government by his mother's and wife's involvement in politics.
McSherry's mother, Marsha McSherry, served as Kosciusko County clerk from 1993-2000. Marsha was sworn in as county auditor Jan. 1.
Jason McSherry is married to Allison McSherry, who serves as a county liaison for Congressman Mark Souder's office.
Jason said he has seen how politics work at the federal level from his exposure to Souder.
McSherry said if he is elected, one of his goals is to improve the processing of paperwork for judges.
"I want to work on the promptness in which judges get paperwork," McSherry said.
Jason is a lifelong resident of Kosciusko County. He is a 1997 graduate of Tippecanoe Valley High and attended Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne. He graduated from ITT Technical Institute in 2000.
He currently is serving his second term on the Seward Township Advisory Board.
He is a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He also volunteers for the Burket Volunteer Fire Department and serves as county coordinator for the Souder for Congress Campaign.
He and his wife have an 18-month-old daughter, Madelynn.
