Marcia McSherry is announcing her candidacy for county auditor.
"I enjoy county government," said McSherry, who worked in the clerk's office beginning in 1985 and was elected Clerk of the Circuit Court, serving two consecutive four-year terms, from 1992 through 2000.
"As clerk, I worked with different departments. The auditor's office is the hub of county government, handling payroll, budgets, claims, tax distributions and assessment.
"I know how things flow and it all flows into the auditor's office. Sue Ann Mitchell is to be commended for her work."
Mitchell has served two consecutive terms as auditor and may not run for the office in the 2006 election.

The State Board of Accounts publishes guidelines for each county office, describing duties as directed by law and when those duties are to be performed.
"You have to know your resources and use them. You have to be able to listen," McSherry said. "Plus, no one is alone. There are 91 other people in the state doing the same job, so you have a lot of people to rely on.
"I'll be accessible to the public and to the office holders."
