McSherry, Jarrette Receive GOP Woman, Man Of The Year Awards At Hall Of FameAllison McSherry and Judge James Jarrette received Republican Woman and Man of the Year awards Friday night during the GOP Hall of Fame dinner.

The awards were presented by Jean Northenor.

McSherry thanked the Republican party for the award and all the support from her family.

Jarrette did not attend Friday's dinner, and Steve Foster accepted Jarrette's award for him.

There were approximately 97 Republicans who attended the dinner aboard the S.S. Lillypad boat in Syracuse Friday.

Third District Congressional candidate Marlin Stutzman was the featured speaker for the evening. Stutzman's wife, Christy, also attended.

Stutzman said he thinks this is the year the Republicans will take back the country.

"I believe in the fall we can regain the people's trust and turn our country around," Stutzman said.

He said he does not have the desire to be a career politician, but a public servant.

Stutzman said he is concerned about the massive debt, and said economic stability needs to be passed on to children and grandchildren.

He said he visited Dalton Corp. last week and, if elected, will be proud to represent a manufacturing district.

"It's time we send people to Washington who will stand up against those policies and principles that made this country great and our Constitution and believe in people rather than government," Stutzman said.

State Treasurer Richard Murdock and Secretary of State candidate Charlie White also attended and spoke.

Murdock said he is seeking the seat in the November election, and said he has learned a lot about himself while serving.

He said over the last four years, the Indiana State Police pension fund has been ranked in the top 20 percent of all police pension funds in the United States for performance.

White said he is seeking the Secretary of State seat and has been a Republican since he was 12 years old.

"As a young boy I saw a man like Ronald Reagan get elected and it has made me proud to be an American and we don't need to apologize for American greatness," White said.

Upcoming GOP events include a Spine Award Dinner Thursday at 6 p.m. at Tippecanoe Lake Country Club where Governor Mitch Daniels will be honored. The annual GOP Fish Fry is Oct. 6 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Kosciusko Fairgrounds.
