NORTH MANCHESTER – Tuesday's Manchester Community School Board of Trustees meeting dealt with the final preparations necessary for MCS to start off the new school year.

In preparation for the 2011-2012 school year, the first topic of discussion was the budget.

Just like any budget, the  MCS 2011-2012 budget is being designed to be as efficient as possible with every student in mind, board members said.  Written into the 2011-2012 budget is an order for two new  78-passenger school buses.

A final and detailed 2011-2012 budget will be released to the public within two weeks.

MCS is also gearing for the upcoming school year by starting off school sports like soccer and football. Manchester High School will be trying out a new football field complete with press box and seating area on an upcoming football scrimmage on September 2.

During an administrative update, MHS Principal Nancy Alspaugh announced that a number of teachers have been attending project -based learning workshops.

This is a technique that is designed to stimulate the student through relevant projects and will be adopted in a few MHS classrooms.

MHS also will be adding an advanced placement studio art class for the new school year.  This is the first advanced placement art class that has been offered at MHS.

Manchester Community Schools will be back in session on August 19.
