As elections draw closer Congressman David McIntosh stopped through Warsaw Friday while making the rounds to talk about his campaign.
McIntosh talked about the White River fish kill, which, he said, is a clear example of Gov. Frank O'Bannon's administration falling out on the job.
McIntosh also presented a list of incidents illustrating mismanagement by the O'Bannon administration. This list included the fish kill, O'Bannon's announcement Feb. 23 that the state had made a $200 million mistake and his failure to solve Indiana's property tax problems.
McIntosh said if he were governor he would hire the best qualified people for his administration and would aggressively push to do a review on where the state is spending too much and where it is not spending enough.
"Use the tools you have but be proactive," McIntosh said.
McIntosh expressed regret over the campaign ad that portrayed a Muncie resident saying his taxes had doubled. O'Bannon accused McIntosh of false advertising, saying the Muncie resident's taxes increased only 37 percent. Yet McIntosh's campaign kept running the ad.
McIntosh said the ad was hard to pull. He responded to the comment of his campaign not doing a very good job: "We didn't."
When asked why he started running negative campaign ads against O'Bannon, McIntosh said, "People would like my positive vision, but this year they're not paying attention to it."
McIntosh's main goals for Indiana are tax cuts, improving Indiana's education and pushing Indiana to become the high-tech capital of the Midwest.
He said he has three debates with O'Bannon scheduled. On Sept. 22 they will debate in Indianapolis; Oct. 10 in Fort Wayne; and Oct. 12 in Evansville.
