As Warsaw Schools Superintendent Dr. Dave McGuire's future is still uncertain, a packed room at the special Warsaw School Board meeting Monday supported him with a standing ovation.
Only a handful of people did not applaud him.
The applause came towards the end of the meeting after Cathy Folk, school board member, said, "I'm going to voice my support for Dr. McGuire." She said the board's future decision on McGuire will have far-reaching implications outside of this community.
The school board met in executive session before the public meeting to discuss McGuire's evaluation.
During the regular meeting, board member Deb Wiggins made her first of three motions of the night, moving that "pursuant to contract addenda dated Sept. 20, 2004, to the contract between Warsaw Community Schools and Dr. David B. McGuire requiring written evaluation of the superintendent's performance by July 1, this board publicly announces that evaluation has been completed. The written evaluation was presented to the superintendent on May 11, 2005, by board president Ron Yeiter and board member Gene England.
"This board directs ... Yeiter to instruct local legal counsel, Max E. Reed, and legal counsel from the Indiana School Board Association to investigate and determine this board's options regarding the employment status of the superintendent and to report all options to this board at an executive session to be held on June 6, 2005, at 5:30 p.m. at the office of Max E. Reed."
Voting to approve Wiggins' motion was Gene England, Ron Yeiter, Dan Robinson, Wiggins and Tammy Dalton. Opposed was Folk and Chuck Sauders.
In other personnel matters, the school board approved:
Max Ketrow's resignation as boys' track coach and building-based team member at Madison.
Victoria Heckman's resignation as first grade teacher at Eisenhower Elementary.
Peggy Anuta's resignation as second grade teacher at Leesburg Elementary.
Chad Hoffert's employment as a cross country coach at Lakeview Middle School.
Wendy Seulean's and Jamie Gill's employment to work with Title I remediation and enrichment for students at Lincoln June 7-10.
