McGlennen Seeks Coroner’s JobSILVER LAKE - A third Republican has thrown his name in the ring for Kosciusko County coroner.
Silver Lake Town Marshal Jason McGlennen, 48, filed his declaration of candidacy earlier this week with Kosciusko County Republican Party Central Committee Chairman Mike Ragan.
“I thought about (running for coroner) for several years,” McGlennen said.
After being elected to the Kosciusko County Council, District 3, in the May Republican primary and November general election, current coroner Tony Ciriello resigned, effective Dec. 31. A caucus has been scheduled for 6 p.m. Dec. 1 for the county treasurer - to replace Rhonda Helser who resigned as she was elected auditor - immediately followed by a caucus for the coroner. Deadline for candidates to file for treasurer and coroner is 6 p.m. Monday.
Candidates who previously announced for coroner include Tyler Huffer and Tracy Wilson.
McGlennen said he’s been in law enforcement for over 20 years, during which time he’s worked with the coroner’s office on death investigations.
Born in Warsaw, McGlennen graduated from Warsaw Community High School He grew up and spent his life in Silver Lake. He’s been employed with the Silver Lake Police Department since 2000, becoming full-time in 2002. In 2017, McGlennen was named town marshal.
As the town marshal, he said he’s become very familiar with budgeting.
Asked why he would be the best candidate for the job, McGlennen said one of the biggest complaints he always hears is that the coroner is always tied to some funeral home. He is not.
“I grew up in Kosciusko County. I want to see Kosciusko County flourish. I want to see the coroner’s office stay respectable,” McGlennen said.
