McGinnis Is Sole Candidate For Winona CouncilOnly one person filed to finish out the remaining term for the Winona Lake Town Council Ward 2 seat, but a Republican caucus will still be held Tuesday evening.
Ashley McGinnis filed Dec. 6 for the position being vacated by Denny Duncan. Duncan was elected to the Warsaw School Board and can not hold two elected positions.
Kosciusko County Republican Party Committee Chairman Mike Ragan said in a telephone interview Monday morning that McGinnis was the sole person who filed by the 6 p.m. Saturday deadline. The caucus is at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Winona Lake Town Hall in the Council Chambers. Rules require that the candidate be elected by a caucus, even if there’s only one.
According to a news release McGinnis provided to local media last week, this is her first filing for an elected council position, but she has been a part of the community her entire life. She’s also involved with her family’s business, Warsaw Engineering & Fabricating. Recently, McGinnis was elected to be president of the Kosciusko County Republican Women’s Club for 2023 and is a current member of the Winona Lake Limitless Park Board.
If elected by the Republican caucus Tuesday evening, McGinnis plans to complete the 2022 Aim webinar for council members and the 2022 annual budget workshop webinar.
McGinnis is a Winona Lake resident and resides with her husband, Brandon McGinnis, and 4-year-old son.
