McGinnis Files For Winona Lake Council SeatAshley McGinnis has filed for the Winona Lake Town Council Ward 2 seat being vacated by Denny Duncan.

Duncan was elected to the Warsaw School Board and can not serve in both elected positions. A Republican caucus to elect Duncan’s successor will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Winona Lake Council Chambers, 1310 Park Ave., Winona Lake.

According to a news release McGinnis provided to local media, this is her first filing for an elected council position, but she has been a part of the community her entire life. She’s also involved with her family’s business, Warsaw Engineering & Fabricating. Recently, McGinnis was elected to be president of the Kosciusko County Republican Women’s Club for 2023 and is a current member of the Winona Lake Limitless Park Board. She aspires to give back to the community as much as she can.

“As a taxpayer of this great community, I think it’s very important to maintain the utmost respect for the taxpayers’ dollars. Taking care of this great community and using the taxpayer money in the best way is a major priority for me. We live in a crazy world these days, but here in this small community, it still feels safe and welcoming. It is extremely important to me that we protect it and keep it that way,” she states in her release.

If elected by the Republican caucus Tuesday evening, McGinnis plans to complete the 2022 Aim webinar for council members and the 2022 annual budget workshop webinar.

She states, “It is always beneficial to continue learning and that’s easy to do when it’s something you are passionate about. I think it’s important to be confident in the knowledge you have and always look for more to consider. I feel these workshops would be a great start to expanding on the business knowledge I already have.”

McGinnis is a Winona Lake resident and resides with her husband, Brandon McGinnis, and 4-year-old son.

Candidates for the Council position must reside in Ward 2 of Winona Lake and be a good Republican in good standing.

Declarations of candidacy are available at the office of Kosciusko County Clerk of the Circuit Court, 121 N. Lake St., Warsaw, and must be filed with Kosciusko County Republican Party Central Committee Chairman Mike Ragan no later than 72 hours prior to the beginning of the caucus. Ragan’s phone number is 574-265-1430 and his email is mragan@sprintmail.com.

Eligible candidates will be allowed a maximum of three minutes to address the voting caucus.

Eligible members of the caucus are the Republican precinct committee members of Winona Lake who have served continuously from 30 days prior to the start of the caucus.

The Ward 2 Council member will be elected by secret ballot by the majority of members of the voting caucus.
