Maynard L. Ring, 90, died at 1:29 p.m. Feb. 23, 2012, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.
He was born Dec. 24, 1921, in Claypool, to Archie and Pearl Bowser Ring. On May 22, 1943, in Brownwood, Texas, he married Helen L. Draper, who died May 24, 1997.
He was inducted into the U.S. Army Nov. 3, 1942, in Toledo, Ohio, and served with the 97th Signal Corp as telephone lineman and telegraph 238. He was a Bronze Star and Purple Heart recipient. Tech 4 Maynard L. Ring was honorably discharged Oct. 22, 1945, at Camp Atterbury.
A lifetime Kosciusko County resident, he was a lineman for Kosciusko REMC for 38 years, retiring in 1984.
He was a 1940 graduate of Claypool High School and a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Bradenton, Fla. His faith was very important to him. He served four years on the Winona Lake Town Board; was a member of National Campers and Hikers Association and Kosciusko Kutups Camping Club and a lifetime American Legion Post 49. He volunteered for Kosciusko County Red Cross. He loved being outdoors and enjoyed farming and truck patch gardening ... the fruits of labor were canned. Grandson Scott recalls going on trips with his grandparents and camping along the way. He had high expectations of Scott, believing he could achieve anything. He was a strong example of a good work ethic and always stressed that if you start something you have to see it through to completion. Because of her care for him, he unintentionally influenced his granddaughter to look forward to a career in the medical field.
Surviving are a daughter, Rosemary (and spouse Jerry) Parker, Warsaw; a grandson, Scott Parker, Warsaw; a great-granddaughter, Hannah Lynn Parker, Warsaw; and a brother, Robert Ring, Scottsdale, Ariz. He also was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sherry Parker, who died Nov. 7, 1991, and two sisters, Dorothy Cumberland, who died in 1992, and Janet Newlove, who died in 2007.
Services were at noon today at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, officiated by Pastor Gary Boschain of First Christian Church, Warsaw, and with military honors by members of Warsaw’s American Legion Post 49 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1126. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
