Maxine S. Whitaker, 84, of Silver Lake, passed away at 5:50 p.m. June 20, 2013, in Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw. She was born May 14, 1929, in Floyd County, Ky., to Cager and Duce Hackworth Spradlin. On May 21, 1946, in Prestonsburg, Ky., she married Ellis Whitaker, who died Oct. 21, 1987. She was a 52-year resident of Silver Lake. She was a 33-year employee of Heckaman Bindery, North Manchester, retiring in 2004. She attended Gospel Hill Pentecostal Church, God’s Highway to Heaven Church and Water of Life Pentecostal Church. Surviving are a son, Lloyd (and spouse Pearlie) Whitaker, Silver Lake; two grandchildren, Angela Davis, Akron, and Scott (and spouse Kelly) Whitaker, Bourbon; great-grandchildren: Zachary Scott, Paige, Lauryn, Haley and Hunter; and a brother, Estill (and spouse Arbdella) Spradlin, Marshall, Mich. She also was preceded in death by six brothers, a sister and a great-grandson, Austin Ellis. Services will be at noon Monday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, with Pastors Harry Crace and Junior Arnett officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
