MENTONE – Max L. Flenar, 75, Etna Green, died at 12:33 p.m, Sunday, June 24, 2018, at Peabody Retirement Community of North Manchester.
He was born Jan. 28, 1943, in Warsaw, to Seth H. and Mildred E. Robbins Flenar.
On July 21, 1963, in the Etna Green Church of Christ, he married Linda J. Long, who survives.
He had been a barber for 28 years, serving the Mentone community for 14 years and the Bourbon community for 14 years. He then worked for Zimmer Orthopedics of Warsaw for 12 years, retiring in 1998.
He was a graduate of Mentone High School in 1961. He graduated from International Barber College of Indianapolis in 1963. He attended the Church of Christ of Etna Green. He enjoyed golfing, gardening and watching high school sports. He was always friendly and didn’t know a stranger.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Flenar, Etna Green; a daughter, Angie (husband Craig Szymanski), West Lafayette; a son, Don Flenar (Vicki), Peachtree City, Ga.; grandchildren, Cade, Reid, Trey, Aleah and Ashley (husband Ryan); a brother, Kay (wife Sue Flenar), Etna Green; a stepsister, Mona Deen (husband Ron Floor), Flint, Mich.; a stepbrother, Charles (wife Mary Carpenter), Etna Green; several nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Carol Flenar, Talma.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Doris Grubbs; and brothers Larry, Bob, Don and Jerry Flenar.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m, Thursday, June 28, 2018, at King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone. Pastor Jordan Ickes will officiate.
Burial will be at Etna Green Cemetery.
Visitation will from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at King Memorial Home.
