CARMEL – Wawasee High School golfer Mikala Mawhorter’s prep career came to a close Saturday in the state finals at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel. Mawhorter, who advanced to state by shooting a 75 in the regional at Noble Hawk Golf Links in Kendallville, shot a 97 in Friday’s first round at state, and then shot a 93 in Saturday’s final round. Mawhorter’s 36-hole score of 190 left her tied for 79th among the 100 competitors. Lake Central sophomore Alexis Miestowski was the individual medalist, shooting 76 and 79 for a two-day total of 145. She won the state championship by six strokes over Evansville North sophomore Hadley Watts and Bloomington South senior Cherise Otter. The highest finisher from the area was Rochester junior Kinley Lingenfelter, who shot 86 Friday and improved 10 strokes Saturday to finish in a tie for 11th with a 36-hole score of 162. Evansville North won the team title with a two-day score of 651, beating runner-up Westfield by 26 strokes. Chesterton finished third at 692, followed in the top five by Evansville Memorial (699) and Indianapolis Cathedral (700). NorthWood finished 15th among the 15 teams, as the Lady Panthers carded a two-day team score of 761. Linnzie Richner, the only senior in NorthWood’s lineup, shot 86 Friday and 85 Saturday for a total of 171. The rest of the Lady Panthers’ lineup included Summer Stillson (91-94 185), Madison Richner (97-106 203), Mackenzie Weaver (110-95 205) and Abby Slabaugh (119-103 222).
