MILFORD - Maurice G. "Morrie" Beer, 86, Milford, died at 9 p.m., Oct. 23, 200,8 at Lakeland Rehab Center, Milford.
He was born June 21, 1922, in Milford, to Ezra and Luella Haab Beer. On March 5, 1944, he married Betty Rassi Beer, who preceded him in death in 1997.
He was a lifetime area resident and well-known, local farmer. He was a 1940 graduate of Milford High School. He was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church, Milford. He had many years of community service as a member of the Township Advisory Board, as a township trustee, county commissioner and county councilman. He was also a Redcoat volunteer with Goshen Hospital and a bus driver with Wawasee Community School Corporation.
Surviving are two daughters, Sue (and spouse Will) Schieler, Milford; and Judy (and spouse Bob) Kitson, Syracuse; two sons, Ken (and spouse Lynne) Beer, and David (and spouse Jo Ann) Beer, all of Milford; 12 grandchildren: Julie (and spouse Wayne) Leman, Stacey (and spouse William) Feller, Jeremy (and spouse Kara) Beer, Jonah (and spouse Sara) Beer, Amanda (and spouse Tom) Woodiel, Greg (and spouse Lisa) Kitson, Jeff (and spouse Brandi) Kitson, Kirby Kitson, Holly (and spouse Ben) Holden, Gloria (and spouse Matt) Starrett, Lori (and spouse Duane) Harman and Aaron Beer; 19 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Kathryn (and spouse Harold) Emch, Archbold, Ohio, and Eunice (and spouse Gerald) Feichter, Bluffton; and two brothers, Carlton "Cap" (and spouse Marry Ann) Beer and Jesse "Bud" (and spouse Shirley) Beer, all of Milford. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Clark Schieler; a sister, Viola Leman; and a brother, Howard Beer.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Apostolic Christian Church, Milford, with Bill Schlatter and Dan Beer officiating. Burial will be at Milford Cemetery.
Calling is from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home, Milford.
