WINONA LAKE - The Masterworks Festival will be held from June 23 through July 21.
It provides world-class training for the next generation of performing artists. These highly select students will receive individual and group instruction from accomplished performing arts professionals who are employed by some of the world's finest orchestras, dance and theater companies and universities.
Free performances by both faculty and students will be open to the public during the month-long event.
The first performance will be a faculty recital Sunday at 7:30 p.m. at Hillside Amphitheatre.
All MasterWorks Orchestra, opera, theater and dance concerts will be in the Rodeheaver Auditorium.
The faculty recitals will be in the Hillside Amphitheatre. Programs and venues are subject to change.
June 28 at 7:30 p.m. The MasterWorks Orchestra, David Gier, conductor. The program includes Bartok: "Viola Concerto," Larry Dutton, viola soloist; Rimsky-Korsakov: "Scheherazade"; and Mozart: "The Magic Flute Overture."
June 29 at 2 p.m., The MasterWorks Orchestra, David Gier, conductor. The program includes Ravel: "Tzigane," John Dalley, violin soloist; Rimsky-Korsakov: "Scheherazade"; and Mozart: "The Magic Flute Overture."
June 30 at 7:30 p.m., MasterWorks Faculty Recital, program to be announced.
July 5 at 7:30 p.m., The MasterWorks Orchestra, Patrick Kavanaugh, conductor. The program includes Dvorak: "Cello Concerto," Anne Williams, cello soloist; Wagner: "Die Meistersinger Prelude"; and Beethoven: "Symphony No. 5."
July 6 at 7:30 p.m., The MasterWorks Orchestra, outside with fireworks, Patrick Kavanaugh, conductor. The program includes Tchaikovsky: "1812 Overture"; Copland: "Lincoln Portrait"; Winners of the MasterWorks concerto competition perform Beethoven: "Symphony No. 5."
July 7 at 7 p.m., MasterWorks Faculty Recital, program to be announced.
July 11 at 7:30 p.m., The MasterWorks Orchestra, David Gier, conductor. The program is Mozart's complete opera, "The Marriage of Figaro."
July 12 at 7:30 p.m., the MasterWorks Orchestra and dance ensemble Patrick Kavanaugh, conductor. The program includes Rimsky-Korsakov: "Russian Easter Overture"; winners of the MasterWorks Concerto Competition; Herold: "Zampa Overture"; Barber: "Adagio for Strings."
July 13 at 2 p.m., The MasterWorks Orchestra, David Gier, conductor. Mozart: "The Marriage of Figaro."
July 14 at 7 p.m., MasterWorks Faculty Recital, program to be announced.
July 19 at 7:30 p.m., The MasterWorks Orchestra, John Nelson, conductor. Schubert: "Symphony No. 8" ("Unfinished"); Dvorak: "Slavonic Dances"; Mozart: S"ymphonie Concertante"; Margaret Blades, violin soloist; and Larry Dutton, viola soloist.
July 20 at 2 p.m., The MasterWorks Theatre Troupe performs.
