Mary Schmidt

Posted

Mary Schmidt, of Leesburg, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2026, in her home surrounded by her family at the age of 83.
She was born on Dec. 11, 1942, in Blue Island, Ill., the daughter of Helen Gunder and Nick Moldovan.
Mary was a loving woman whose life was centered on caring for others. A homemaker for many years, she also worked as a bridal consultant at a dress shop and, for a time, owned her own retail shop in Milford. In every role she held, she brought warmth and a strong sense of dedication.
She married Robert A. Schmidt on July 2, 1960, in Chicago, beginning a marriage and family life that remained close to her heart. Mary was known as a spitfire, someone who took care of everyone and whose loving nature was felt by those around her. She was especially devoted to her family and took great pride in raising her grandsons later in life.
Mary was also deeply connected in the life of her community. She was very involved in Friends of the Library at the North Webster Library and remained active, giving her time and attention in many ways. Most of all, she loved spending time with her great-grandson, Varian, who was a fixture in her life.
She is survived by her daughter, Cathy Schmidt; and by her grandsons, Raymond (Delaney) Schmidt and Christian Schmidt. Mary was preceded in passing by her parents, husband, and son, Robert F. Schmidt.
Titus Funeral Home of North Webster is entrusted with Mary’s care. Friends and family may gather at the funeral home, 8056 E. 500 N., North Webster, on Saturday, Oct. 3 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at North Webster Cemetery Mock Addition.
Her family kindly requests that donations be made to the North Webster Library in Mary’s honor.
