ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - Mary P. Weihler, 84, of Sherrard, died April 13, 2009, in Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island, Ill.
She was born Dec. 27, 1924, in Rock Island, to Victor and Mary Bellafore Polito. On Feb. 9, 1946, in Rock Island, she married George F. Weihler, who preceded her in death March 26, 2002.
She graduated from the former St. Joseph High School, Rock Island. Prior to her marriage, she worked at Modern Woodman, Rock Island. In subsequent years she was a homemaker, farm wife and mother. After her children were grown she worked at the Sherrard School District for many years. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Matherville, and the Altar & Rosary Society of the church. Other memberships included EAA Chapter 75, Davenport, and the Sherrard Women's Club of which she was a past president. She enjoyed playing cards and traveling. She especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends particularly when it involved her grandchildren's sports and activities. She will be greatly missed by all.
Surviving are her children: Richard (and spouse Judi) Weihler, Warsaw; Mary Jane (and spouse Michael) Hartman, and Victor (and spouse Carrie) Weihler, all of Sherrard; Thomas (and spouse Lolly) Weihler, Orion; a brother, Leo (and spouse Rose) Polito, Rock Island; grandchildren: Ryan Weihler, Rebecca (and spouse Greg) Early, Christopher Weihler, Jeffrey (and spouse Becky) Hartman, Anissa (and spouse Lance) Phillips, Carly (and spouse Nick) Esser, Brittney (and spouse Chris) Seibel, Tony Weihler, Michelle (and spouse Travis) Eddy, Stuart (and spouse Paula) Weihler, Andrew (and spouse Kara) Weihler; great-grandchildren: Brad (and spouse Kayla), Kaitlynn, Courtney, Jacob, Joshua, Emma, Sarah, Kalli, Kai, Peyton and Maslyn; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and in-laws, including Helen Enstrom, Jim and Shirley Weihler and John and Dorothy Bell. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Hank and Tony Polito.
Services were today at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Matherville, Ill. Burial was in German Cemetery, Sherrard.
Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island, was in charge of arrangements.
