Mary M. Coe, 85, of North Manchester, died at 11:55 p.m. July 14, 2012, in Timbercrest Healthcare Center, North Manchester.

She was born Aug. 18, 1926, in North Manchester, to the Rev. R.H. and Maude Reiff Miller. On Aug. 15, 1948, she married M. Gene Coe, who died July 6, 1983.

She taught home economics and English at Laketon and Deedsville high schools from 1948-53. She was a homemaker and was business manager at Joyful Scribes for many years. She was a life member of Manchester Church of the Brethren where she was handbell choir director for many years and a member of the church choir. She was also director of youth musical productions for 13 years. She served in Christian education, was a nursery school teacher, secretary of the church board and served on many committees and commissions.

She graduated from Central High School in 1944 and received a bachelor’s degree from Manchester College in 1948. She was a member of PEO and ESA sororities and had been a teacher at Manchester Nursery School. She was the first woman elected to the Manchester Community School Board, serving from 1966-70. She was a life member and served as an officer of the Timbercrest Auxiliary. She sang in the Timbercrest Choir and served as director. She served on the founding committee of the Manchester Early Learning Center.

Surviving are a son, Barry J. (and spouse Teresa) Coe, Bradenton, Fla.; a daughter, Karen C. (and spouse Gary) Eberly, North Manchester; a brother, Robert M. Miller, North Manchester; grandchildren: Britta Eberly Glass, Kyle Glass, Grant Eberly, Klancey Zubowski, Jerami Summers and Joshua Coe; and a great-grandchild, Braydon Summers. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. John D. Miller, and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, at Manchester Church of the Brethren, 1307 Beckley St., North Manchester, with Pastor Kurt Borgmann officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester.
