WINONA LAKE – Mary L. Powell, 91, formerly of Peru, Ind., passed away at 9 a.m. Nov. 21, 2014, at Grace Village Healthcare, Winona Lake. She was born March 8, 1923, in Peru, to Floyd and Lois Judy Behny. On June 16, 1943, in Denver, Ind., she married Robert A. Powell, who preceded her in death Aug. 17, 2008. She was a member of First Christian Church, Peru. She was a graduate of Peru High School in 1941 and retired as an operator for Indiana Bell. For many years, she worked in the kitchen at Peru Junior High School. She had been a Pink Lady at Dukes Memorial Hospital, a member of the Peru Women of the Moose and Psi Lota Xi sorority. Survivors include a son, Monte (and spouse Kim) Powell, Warsaw; twin grandsons, Marc and Matthew Powell; and three great-grandsons, Logan, Spencer and Dylan Powell, all of Warsaw. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Michael J. Miller; and two sisters, Dorothy Shields and Jean Tomson. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at McClain Funeral Home, Denver.
