MILFORD – Mary “Jean” Kistler, 69, Syracuse, passed away Sept. 23, 2013, at I.U. Goshen Hospital. She was born Dec. 10, 1943, in Goshen, to Charles and Mary Kline Smoker, who preceded her in death. On May 1, 1999, she married Nelson Kistler, who survives in Syracuse. She enjoyed socializing with family and friends, whether it was playing cards, dominoes or sharing a meal. She was a great cook, enjoyed gardening and being outdoors. She loved to travel with her husband Nelson, especially to Fort Myers, Fla., where she enjoyed being on the beach. Jean was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and will be dearly missed. She is also survived by four children: Danae Whetten, Fort Myers, Fla.; Denise McDaniel, Syracuse; Chad Berkeypile and Brent (and spouse Erin) Berkeypile, all of Milford; seven grandchildren: Joshua, Nathan, Jaxon, Courtney, Kyra, Grady and Elise; four siblings: Bob (and spouse Helen) Smoker, Leesburg; Linda (and spouse Perry) Hathaway, Claypool; Roger (and spouse Jane) Smoker, Warsaw; and Deb (and spouse Salah) Ali, Washington, D.C. Services will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at Maple Grove Church of the Brethren, 20430 CR 46, New Paris, with Pastor Dwayne Runkle officiating. Calling is from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the church.
