WABASH - Mary Jane Miller, 86, of Albion, and a longtime Wabash resident, died at 12:30 a.m. Aug. 5, 2007, in Bickford Cottage, Wabash.
She was born Jan. 2, 1921, in Wabash, to George L. and Rosa Brosnan Martin. On Aug. 19, 1944, in Wabash, she married Richard L. Miller, who preceded her in death.
She and her husband spent many summers at Tippecanoe Lake, Kosciusko County. She was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church, Wabash Rosary Sodality and Sigma Phi Gamma Sorority. She was a longtime volunteer and board member for the American Red Cross. She also was a volunteer for the American Heart Association, Meals on Wheels and Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a Brownie Scout leader. She had been a Gray Lady at Wabash County Hospital and a Pink Lady at Kosciusko Community Hospital. She worked as a seamstress at Dick's Men's Wear, a men's clothing store she co-owned with her husband. She also had worked at Scotts 5&10, America Rock Wool, Dawalt Pharmacy and for Dr. Harry Grossnickle, all in Wabash. She was a 1938 Wabash High School graduate.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Jane Ann) Marteeny, Holly, Mich., and Mrs. Stanley (Mary Kathryn) Tipton, Albion; a brother, Robert (and wife Mary Ella) Martin, Albion; two sisters, Elizabeth Rose "Betty" Weber, Mason, Mich., and Sister Maureen Martin, Mason, Mich.; six grandchildren: Mrs. Matt (Dawn) Fulton, Grand Blanc, Mich.; Mrs. Damon (Dana) Sefa, Clarence Center, N.Y.; Ben Tipton, Indianapolis; and Jay, Margaret and Colin Tipton, all of Albion; and six great-grandchildren, Tristen, Ella Jane and Aidan Sefa, all of Clarence Center, and Hayley, Ally Jane and Kate Fulton, all of Grand Blanc. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Services will be at noon Friday at St. Bernard Catholic Church, corner of Cass and Sinclair streets, Wabash, with Father Sextus Don officiating. Burial will be in Falls Cemetery, Wabash.
Calling is from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Ave., Wabash, with a rosary service at 7:30 p.m.
