Mary Jane Grossnickle, 88, Warsaw, passed away at 4:33 a.m. Dec. 7, 2013, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.
She was born Nov. 1, 1925, in North Manchester, to Vinson Merrill and Icel Marie Sutherly Stukey. On Sept. 3, 1944, in North Manchester, she was united in marriage to Paul Grossnickle, who survives.
The office of Dr. Paul Grossnickle, O.D., of Warsaw, employed her as a bookkeeper. She was a member of the Ladies 18 Hole Leagues at Tippecanoe Lake Country Club, Rozella Ford Golf Course and Stonehenge Golf Club. In addition, she, along with other volunteers, knitted hats for cancer patients through the Catherine Peachy Fund. She was a beginning and advanced knitting instructor for the YMCA of Kosciusko County. She volunteered with the Symphony of the Lakes and Mobile Meals. She was best known for her “famous” Texas sheet cake and her fondness for bridge and square dancing.
Also surviving are two sons, Dr. Steven (and spouse Lori) and Dr. Bruce (and spouse Jeanne) Grossnickle, both of Warsaw; a sister, Barbara McCausland, Tucumcari, N.M.; six grandchildren: Brian (and spouse Hildy) and Katie Grossnickle, both of Maple City, Mich.; David Grossnickle, Chicago, Ill.; Eric (and spouse Alanna) Grossnickle, Traverse City Mich.; Mark Grossnickle, Tucson, Ariz.; Jamie (and spouse Will) Cunningham, Sanford, N.C.; and two great-grandchildren, Mica and Kati Grossnickle, Maple City, Mich.
Services will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are entrusted to McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel Warsaw.
