Mary Elizabeth Merley Derring

AKRON – Mary Elizabeth Merley Derring, 86, of 307 Center St., Akron, died at 6:43 a.m. Sept. 13, 2012, in his residence.

She was born March 20, 1926, in Akron, to William F. and Berdella Bammerlin Merley. In 1945, in East Chicago, she married Vernon Irving, who preceded her in death.

She lived in Akron most of her life except for six years in the Calumet area. She graduated in Akron High School in 1944, moved to East Chicago to attend St. Catherine’s Nursing School, where she graduated in 1947, then moved back to Akron. She was a registered nurse for Dr. Dean Stinson’s office in Rochester for 11 years and would often accompany the doctor on house calls. She also worked at nursing homes. She was a member of Missionary Women of the Akron Church of God.

Surviving are a sister, Dorothy Kitson, Syracuse; three daughters: Mary Catherine (and spouse Russ) Koppang, Naples, Fla., and Wells, Maine; Della G. Derring, Akron; and Doris D. (and spouse Ken) Morse, Chesteron; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a half sister.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Earl-Love Funeral Home, Akron, with the Rev. Terry Canfield officiating. Burial will be at a later date.

Calling is from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
