SYRACUSE — Mary Elizabeth Koeppel, 97, Syracuse,  passed away at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 5, 2018, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Syracuse.

She was born Sept. 28, 1920, in Howe, to Benjamin and Jane Clara Judson Juday.

She graduated from Howe High School and was married on Nov. 1, 1941, in Elkhart, to Frederick M. “Fred” Koeppel, who preceded her on Dec. 8, 1990.

She was a homemaker and moved to Syracuse 38 years ago from Elkhart.

She was a member of Saint Andrews United Methodist Church and former member of Simpson United Methodist Church, Elkhart.

She is survived by a daughter, Judy Hardy, Syracuse; a son, Fred (Linda) Koeppel, Elkhart; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son-in-law, Dan Hardy; and eight siblings.

Cremation will take place at Cremation Services of Kosciusko County, Warsaw. Private entombment will take place at Rice Cemetery, Elkhart, with Pastor Jim Tormey of St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church officiating.

Owen Family Funeral Home, Syracuse, is in charge of arrangements.
