WABASH – Mary Elizabeth Jewell-Henderson, 93, Wabash, passed away at 3:03 p.m. Aug.10, 2015, at Autumn Ridge Healthcare Center in Wabash.
She was born June 27, 1922, in Tazewell County, Va., to Melvin Crockett and Hattie Mae Burke VanDyke. On Dec. 3, 1938, she married John Luke Jewell, who preceded her in death July 5, 1958. On Oct. 14, 1959, she married Marshall Covert Henderson, who preceded her in death May 12, 1977.
She was the Christian education director for the Wabash Presbyterian Church for many years. She retired from social services at Wabash County Hospital. She was a member of Wabash Presbyterian Church of Wabash.
Surviving are six children: Patricia A. (and spouse James) Fulwider, Leesburg; Ruby K. Hendrix, Peru; Rita J. Richardson, Phoenix, Ariz.; Marsha J. Weinberg, Germantown, Md.; Stephen C. (and spouse Sue) Henderson, Wabash; and David K. (and spouse Debbie) Henderson, Silver Spring, Md.; 16 grandchildren: Chris E. (and spouse Kelli) Armie, Milford; Jill E. (and spouse Richard) Chagnon, Poway, Calif.; Phillip M. (and fiance Carrie Jordan) Armie, Warsaw; Max E. Fulwider, Nashville, Tenn.; John C. Hendrix, Wabash; B. Jay (and spouse Beth) Hendrix, Schaumburg, Ill.; Jerry W. Hendrix, Claypool; Vanita M. Bell, Bloomington; Valerie M. (and Cary Hoepker) Bell, Phoenix, Ariz.; D. Kent (and Katie Gavaldon) Bell, Venice, Calif.; Kent (and spouse Julie) Henderson, Wabash; Kelli (and Eloise Lindborg) Henderson, Seattle, Wash.; Krys Eckelbarger, Wabash; Mark Henderson, Washington, D.C.; Brian (and spouse Michele) Henderson, Indianapolis; and Carolyn Henderson, Atlanta, Ga.; 20 great-grandchildren: Amanda Armie and Anthony Wooten, both of Mesa, Ariz.; Elizabeth Chagnon, Washington, D.C.; Peter Chagnon, Northridge, Calif.; Roger Chagnon, San Diego, Calif., Anthony (and spouse Jessica) Minnix, Fort Wayne; Stevi (and Josh Auer) Coffin, Syracuse; Luke Armie, Warsaw; Nola Fulwider, Nashville, Tenn.; Kyle Hendrix, Chicago, Ill.; Sara (and spouse Geoff) Klein, Santa Monica, Calif.; Jerry Hendrix Jr. and Shanna Hendrix, both of Claypool; Andrew Bell and Shay Unger, both of Bloomington; Carli Henderson and Cody Henderson, both of Wabash; Emily, Erin and Evan Eckelbarger, all of Wabash; Whitney Jordan, Amber Yohey, and Kieghlee Daily, all of Warsaw; six great-great-grandchildren: Addison Wooten, Mesa, Ariz.; Alyssa Minnix, Syracuse; Isabella and Ava Minnix, both of Fort Wayne; Jace Coffin and Noah Coffin-Auer, both of Syracuse; many nephews, nieces and dear friends. She also was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, two sisters and two grandchildren, Matthew J. Weinberg and Samuel P. Fulwider.
Services will be at noon Saturday at Wabash Presbyterian Church, 123 W. Hill St., Wabash, with the Rev. Jonathan Cornell officiating. Burial is at a later date in Falls Cemetery, Wabash.
Calling is from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Saturday.
McDonald Funeral Home, Wabash, is entrusted with arrangements.
