Mary E. Hoffman, 98, Winona Lake, passed away at 2:01 p.m. May 14, 2015, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw. She was born Feb. 26, 1917, in Kosciusko County, to Casel and Audrea Zolman Whetstone. On June 15, 1935, in Burket, she married Howard Hoffman, who preceded her in death Dec. 10, 2000. A lifetime resident of Kosciusko County, she was a farmer’s wife and later retired as a postal clerk in Silver Lake. She graduated from Mentone High School with the Class of 1935. She was a member of Center United Methodist Church and Center United Methodist Women’s Mission Group. In the winter she enjoyed watching Big Ten basketball, and in the summer she enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs. Surviving are a son, Miles (and spouse Pat) Hoffman, Silver Lake; two grandsons, Brent (and spouse Jessica) Hoffman, Silver Lake, and Troy (and spouse Sue) Hoffman, Silver Lake; five great-grandchildren: Chelsea, Jade, Noah, Jacob and Brandon, all of Silver Lake; a sister, Geneva (and spouse Don) Emmons, Sammamish, Wash.; and a brother, Leon (and spouse Ruth) Whetstone, Grand Rapids, Mich. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Delores June Whetstone and Edith Walters; and a brother, Carl Whetstone. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, with Pastor Kent Harting officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Claypool.
