SMOLAN, Kan. - Mary D. Tschetter, 97, of Smolan, Kan., died March 25, 2011, in her residence.
She was born April 15, 1913, in Newton, Kan., to Peter F. and Sarah Duerksen Quiring. On Aug. 6, 1940, in Goessel, Kan., she married Paul W. Tschetter, who survives.
She was a teacher and a homemaker.
Also surviving are three sons: Alan Tschetter, Shelbourn Falls, Mass.; John (and spouse Linnea) Tschetter, Nashau, Iowa; an Thomas (and spouse Susan) Tschetter, St. Louis, Mo.; four daughters: Evelyn Tschetter, Salina, Kan.; Lois (and spouse Bruce) Hoyt, Oamaru, New Zealand; Martha (and spouse Ronald) Holder, Knoxville, Tenn.; and Irene (and spouse David) Totel, Phoenix, Ariz.; a brother, Herbert (and spouse Akiko) Quiring, Sedalia, Colo.; a sister, Susan Wedel, Laramie, Wyo.; 14 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Tschetter; a daughter, Wilma Tschetter; and brothers: Karl, Paul, Frank and Ralph Quiring.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. today at First Covenant Church of Salina with the Rev. Doug McHenry officiating. A graveside service was Monday at Halstead (Kan.) Cemetery.
