AKRON – Mary D. Leininger, 92, of 13535 4th Road, Plymouth, and formerly of rural Akron, died at 4:18 p.m. July 2, 2011, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka.
She was born Nov. 29, 1918, in Fulton County, to Omer L. and Pearl Zimmerman Miller. On Nov. 28, 1937, in Rochester, she married Marion E. Leininger, who died Jan. 22, 2000.
She was a homemaker, cook and farmed along side her husband. She also was the cook at the Rochester Sale Barn for many years. She graduated from Talma High School in 1936. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and most recently she attended Community Church of God, LaPaz. She was a past member of Better Homes and Gardens Community Home Economics Club and the Bethlehem Missionary Circle Society. She enjoyed needlepoint, word search books and helping others, including watching and sharing with her grandchildren. She was well known for her noodle making.
Surviving are a daughter, Judy McCartney, Plymouth; a son, William (and spouse Buni) Leininger, Akron; eight grandchildren: Scott (and spouse Marcia) McCartney; Doug (and spouse Karen) McCartney; Tim (and spouse Kelly) McCartney; Eric (and spouse Nan) McCartney; Linda (and spouse Jeff Baney); Thad (and spouse Rochelle) Leininger; Aron (and spouse Olivia) Leininger; and Cami (and spouse Dave) Shriver; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Don, Ed, Gerald, Harold and Leroy Miller; two infant sisters; and a son-in-law, Edward McCartney.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, with the Rev. Sam McClimans officiating. Burial will be in Rochester IOOF Cemetery.
