Mary Catherine Anglin Stookey

NOBLESVILLE – Mary Catherine Anglin Stookey, 96, passed away June 2, 2014, at the Prairie Lakes Health Campus, Noblesville.
She was born Feb. 18, 1918, in Nappanee to Raymond F. and Allie N. Stackhouse Anglin. On Nov. 29, 1934, she married Emra G. Stookey, her husband of almost 66 years, who died Nov. 25, 2000.
She attended school in Milford. She and Emra spent all their lives beginning in 1935 farming on rented farms around Waterloo. In February 1942, they moved to Leesburg to his father’s dairy farm, homesteaded by his ancestors, known as Prairie View Stock Farm. She and Emra were very successful breeding and raising Holstein Friesian dairy cattle, and became widely known throughout Indiana as well as nationally. They also farmed about 500 acres while raising three sons, George K., John R., and Jack E. Stookey.
She and her husband were members of the Leesburg United Methodist Church and she also belonged to several clubs, including Kosciusko County Dairy Club, 4-H Club and Kosciusko County Home Economics Club. After Emra died, she moved to Noblesville, where she became a member of the Noblesville United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Knitting and Quilting Club and the Noblesville Kiwanis Club.
Surviving are her son, George (and spouse Nola); 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by two sons, John and Jack; three brothers and their spouses: Harvey and Mae; Max and Bernice; and Leo and Anabelle.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Randall & Roberts Funeral Home, 1150 Logan St., Noblesville. Additional services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Mishler Funeral Home, 461 W. CR 900N, Milford. Burial is in Leesburg Cemetery.
