AKRON - Mary Ann Cox, 84, formerly of Akron, died at 1:28 a.m. March 24, 2011, in Hickory Creek of Rochester, after an extended illness.

She was born July 31, 1926, in Akron, to Ralph Waldo and Marie Berger Whittenberger. On Sept. 21, 1947, in Akron, she married Ted R. Cox, who died April 9, 2004.

She was a mother and homemaker who lived in Akron most of her life. She worked alongside her husband in the family business for many years and enjoyed the fellowship of her many friends in the euchre club and later in the dance club. She was founder of the Saturday Morning Breakfast Club and held the position of "Queen Mother" for 19 years. She always cherished her time with family and friends. She was a graduate of Akron High School.

Surviving are a daughter, Vicki (and spouse Robert) Rutkowski, San Diego, Calif.; a son, Ted J. Cox, Rochester; three grandchildren: Shannon Rutkowski, San Diego; Ashton Cox, Akron, Ohio; and Leslie Cox, Marion; two great-grandchildren, Abby and Catie Cox, both of Rochester; and a sister, Helen (and spouse Guy) Hill, Rochester. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter-in-law, Sheryl Cox; a grandson, Joshua Rutkowski; and two brothers, Joseph and Donald Whittenberger.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Hartlzer Funeral Home, Akron. Burial will be in Akron Cemetery.
