AKRON - Marvin P. Gagnon, 74, of 310 E. Rochester St., Akron, died at 3:25 p.m. Oct. 27, 2007, in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, following a short illness.

He was born Aug. 2, 1933, in Wabash County, to Floyd and Faye Crist Gagnon. On June 26, 1954, in Akron, he married Violet M. Sitts, who survives.

When he was 16, he began working at Bahney Chevrolet, Akron. In 1974, he became co-owner, and in 1979, it became Gagnon Chevrolet, with his family joining the business which still continues today. He was a 1951 Akron High School graduate and attended Akron Church of God, where he served on the board. He was a member of Akron Lions Club, where he was secretary and past president. He was a member of Akron Chamber of Commerce, where he was a past president. He served on the Akron Fourth of July Committee and was a past Fourth of July parade marshall. He received several recognition awards from Chevrolet over the years. He was a member of Toastmasters Club, Rochester, and was involved in the Akron EMS for 12 years. He enjoyed stock car racing and NASCAR. His favorite driver was Dale Earnhardt. He was a very active community leader who loved Akron.

Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Craig (Kathy) Ammerman, Akron; three sons, John (and wife Lesa) Gagnon and Terry (and wife Sandy) Gagnon, both of Akron, and Robert (and wife Pamela) Gagnon, Rochester; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter and a brother, Marion Gagnon.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Akron Church of God, 301 S. West St., Akron, with Pastors Terry Canfield and Steve Fleck officiating. Burial will be in Roann Community Cemetery.

Calling is from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron.
