NORTH MANCHESTER – Martha Louise Underwood, 80, North Manchester, died at 6:20 p.m.  March 23, 2016, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.
She was born Nov. 26, 1935, in Holton, to Joseph A. and Pearl B. Franklin Dobson. On Jan. 6, 1954, she married Henry R. Hank Underwood, who died Feb. 28, 1988.
She was a CNA and a QMA at Peabody Retirement Community for 36 years. She retired in January 2007. She was a teacher’s aid at Manchester Elementary School for 17 years. She was a member of North Manchester United Methodist Church.
She was a member of VFW Post 286 Ladies Auxiliary, Wabash. Her husband was a veteran of the U.S. Army and participated in the Normandy Invasion, a fact she was very proud of. She dedicated her life to helping people of all walks of life.
Surviving are a daughter, Debra (and spouse Robert) Charles, North Manchester; a sister, Mary Ann Hoff, Bossier City, La.; special friends, Donna Baston, North Manchester, and Patricia Phenis, Marion; six grandchildren: Katrina (and spouse Jeff) Charles, Johnathan Ryan (and spouse Heather) Underwood, Robert T. (and spouse Zoey) Brungart-Charles, Trisha M. Charles, Timothy A. Charles and Thomas H. Charles; eight great-grandchildren: Raven K. Riggs, Zylar Saloga, Braxton Brungart, Saige Saloga, Annabelle R. Underwood, Landyn Smith, Carson Seichter and Hadleigh Brungart. She was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at McKee Mortuary, North Manchester, with Pastor Mark Eastway officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Servia.
Calling is from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to service at the funeral home.
