Marshall County Sheriff's Deputy Involved In Crash

Posted
MARSHALL COUNTY - Shortly after noon Tuesday, troopers from the Bremen State Police Post responded to a two-car personal injury accident involving a Marshall County Sheriffís Deputy.

The crash occurred at the intersection of US 31 and Ind. 110 in southern Marshall County. The state police were assisted at the scene by the Marshall County Sheriff's Department, Argos Police Department and Argos EMS.

Preliminary investigation by crash reconstructionists from the Indiana State Police Bremen Post revealed that Marshall County Patrolman Les McFarland, 42, Bourbon, was driving a 2009 Ford Crown Victoria police car, westbound on State Road 110 at U.S. 31.

McFarland stopped for northbound traffic but failed to yield to a southbound 2004 Dodge Intrepid driven by Timothy Anderson, 44, Granger.

The rear quarter of McFarland's police car was struck by the front end of Anderson's Dodge.

Allegedly McFarland never saw Anderson's southbound vehicle as he entered the intersection. Weather and road conditions do not appear to have played a role in the crash.

McFarland was transported from the scene to St. Joseph Regional Hospital in Plymouth for an elbow injury. Anderson was taking by ambulance with a complaint of neck pain to Woodlawn Hospital in Rochester. Tina Mathes, 49, of South Bend, was a passenger in Anderson's car. She was also taken to Woodlawn Hospital with a complaint of upper back pain. All three participants were treated for their injuries and later released.
