Market Street Work Continues

Posted
Market Street improvements continue despite poor weather conditions.

"The project has been going smoothly, but not as fast as we had hoped due to bad weather," said Warsaw Street Superintendent Lacy Francis. The $200,000 project started in August, beginning with new curb construction along the north and south sides of Market Street.

The project is part of the city's downtown rehabilitation project stemming from the HyettPalma Inc. study.

The company is a national firm specializing in the economic renaissance of downtowns and older business districts. HyettPalma Inc., based in Virginia, studies communities and recommends a course of action for private and public sectors.

Similar projects were previously completed along Center and Buffalo streets.

Since August, there have been nine tri-globe lights, a new sidewalk and trees planted along Market Street, Francis said.

Planter boxes also have been installed along Market Street.

The project will include installing nine benches and nine trash recepticals along Market Street.

Market Street also will be repaved as soon as the planter projects and sidewalk brickwork is completed. Market Street's existing asphalt will be torn out and a new asphalt surface will be laid, Francis said.

Indiana and Lake streets will be closed to allow for Market Street repaving work. The streets will be closed to allow trucks to work on repaving and for parking striping and turn lane work to be completed.

Francis said sidewalk brickwork is near completion with the south side of Market Street from Buffalo to Lake Street needing to be finished.

The completion date of the project is weather dependent, Francis said.

"The next two weeks we hope to start focusing on asphalt work on Market Street, weather permitting," Francis said.
