BOURBON - Mark E. Thacker, 90, of 5388 E. 15th Road, Tippecanoe, passed away at 6:30 p.m. May 31, 2009, in his home in the care of his family.

He was born Oct. 5, 1918, in Bourbon where he resided his whole life, to Otis and Carrie Mae Shoemaker Thacker. On Aug. 10, 1941, he married Jane Thompson who passed away Jan. 14, 2005.

He was known for his strong work ethics until a month ago when he became ill. He was a farmer, and he was a well-known craftsman doing all kinds of handyman work. He did carpenter work, painting and general repairs.

He was a great fisherman; he played a number of musical instruments by ear and played with various local bands. He was a frequent visitor of the restaurants in Argos where the "Liars Club" would meet for coffee and stories.

Survivors include his three daughters: Mary Lou (and spouse Walter) Grohowski, Lake James, N.C.; Elizabeth (and spouse Talmage) Hanson, Scottsdale, Ariz.; Dr. Terri Jo (and spouse Doug) Williams, Canton, Ga.; two sons, James Thacker, Bourbon, and Marvin (and spouse Dinah) Thacker, Tippecanoe; 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Martha Milner, Plymouth.

A celebration of Mark's life will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, 115 S. Main St., Bourbon, with the Rev. Mark Day officiating. Burial will be at Bethel Cemetery, west of Bourbon.

Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
