SYRACUSE - Marise Ellen Smith, 82, of Syracuse, died of natural causes at 2 p.m. Sept. 25, 2007, in St. Vincent Hospice, Indianapolis.
She was born Nov. 11, 1924, in Goshen, to Melvin and Rebecca Dillen. On Aug. 22, 1943, she married Eugene Smith, who died in 1984.
A lifetime area resident, she owned and operated Marise's Town and Lake Shop (ladies' and children's apparel), and was former owner of Town & Country Shop, Anderson. She was a 1941 Syracuse High School graduate and a longtime member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Syracuse.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Ronald (Diana) Winkle, Anderson; a son, Rodney (and wife Pamela) Smith, Phoenix, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lois Novatny, Normal, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Terry Smith; and a sister, Katherine Bauer.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home, Harris Chapel, 7458 E. CR 1000N, Syracuse, IN 46567. Burial will be in Syracuse Cemetery.
