Marion ‘Marilyn’ Savant

Marion “Marilyn” Savant, 86, Warsaw, passed away at 9:49 a.m. Friday, July 13, 2018, in Lutheran Hospital of Indiana, Fort Wayne.

She was born June 3, 1932, in Chicago, Ill., to Clarence and Marie Woehna Payne. She was united in marriage to Jessie Savant Sr. on Dec. 31, 1978, in Warsaw.

Marilyn grew up in Chicago. She then moved to Marshall County for 21 years before moving to Kosciusko County for the remainder of her life.

During her 20s she worked for Wagner Wire. After marrying Jessie, she was able to become a full-time homemaker.

She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 49.

She and Jessie enjoyed visiting Louisiana once a year to sightsee. In addition, she loved her grandchildren, helping people and her sweets — especially chocolate.

Marilyn did not know a stranger; in fact, it is said that she could talk to a post and make it answer back!

She is survived by her husband, Jessie Savant Sr., Warsaw; children: Diana Shively, Osceola; Richard DeWitt, Mishawaka; Robert DeWitt, Osceola; Debra (spouse John) Frame, Osceola; Jessie Savant Jr., Warsaw; and Julie (spouse Arnulfo) Trevino, Harlingen, Texas; brother, Clifton Payne, Chicago; 18 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two children, Joe and Johnny Savant; five siblings; and a grandchild.

The funeral service will at 1 p.m. Friday, July 20, in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. Pastor Terry Bradford will officiate. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

Visitation will be two hours prior to the service, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel.
