Marilyn Nye Brandt, 87, of Palm Harbor, Fla., died Dec. 14, 2012, in Brookside Hospice, Palm Harbor. She was born in Milwaukee, Wis., the oldest child of Mr. and Mrs. Milo A. Nye, Albion. On Oct. 15, 1949, in Valparaiso, she married Alfred W. Brandt Jr., who preceded her in death. She was a 1942 Albion High School graduate. She attended Purdue University and received a bachelor’s degree in nutritional science in 1947. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She worked at Cook County Hospital, Chicago, as a dietician before she met her husband on a blind date. She was engaged July 1949 in Valparaiso. She soon became a homemaker and loving mother of four children. Her three sons enjoyed Scouting and all obtained the Eagle Scout rank. Her proudest accomplishment was her children. She enjoyed knitting, playing bridge, scrapbooking and spending time with her family and friends. She moved to Palm Harbor with her husband in 1976, where they owned and operated Florida Maids on Call. Surviving are two sons, Alfred W. III (and spouse Sandy) Brandt, Forest, Va., and Garry N. Sr. (and spouse Debbie) Brandt, Palm Harbor; a daughter, Barbara A. (and spouse Jim) Findlay, Harrison Township, Mich.; a brother, John (and spouse Donna) Nye, Wilmette, Ill.; two nephews, George and Jacob, Wilmette, Ill.; 11 grandchildren: Shelley, Kristin and Will (and spouse Whitney), Ryan, Benjamin and Gary Jr. Brandt; Jim Jr., Philip, Ian and Siobhan Findlay; Christin (and spouse Joel) Harris; and two great-grandchildren, Austen Grecko and McKenna Brandt. She was preceded in death by a son, David J. Brandt, husband of LouAnn Brandt, Latrobe, Pa. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Walnut Creek United Methodist Church, Warsaw. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
