LIMA, Ohio – Marilyn Jeanette Watt Edgington, 88, of Winona Lake, and formerly of Lima, Ohio, died at 5:25 a.m. Dec. 12, 2012, in Grace Village, Winona Lake.
She was born Aug. 20, 1924, in Lafayette, Ohio, to Allen J. and Verda Mae Patton Watt. On June 9, 1946, she married Albert Duane Edgington, who survives in Winona Lake.
She graduated from Lima Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1945 and was a registered nurse. She practiced nursing from 1945-57 at Lima Memorial Hospital and then again from 1967-78, where she was instrumental in establishing and overseeing the formation and implementation of “Home Health Care” in Putnam County, being based in Ottawa, Ohio. She met her husband at a skating rink at age 15, corresponded with him during World War II when he served in the U.S. Army and with the Rangers in Europe. She married him when he returned and they have shared 66 years of marriage together. She was known to all to be an encourager who often told her children and grandchildren that each was “one of the drops that sparkle” and was known to tell the intern who unexpectedly delivered her baby that he’d do fine and nurses who have cared for her thay they were doing a good job. She was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed rocking babies, demonstrated unconditional love and often told her offspring that she loved them. She was an easy-going woman with a sense of humor, who loved music – especially Montivani, Glenn Miller, Tennessee Ernie Ford and Elvis – and enjoyed antiques. She was a dog and cat lover and loved to make sure the birds and squirrels were fed. She will be lovingly missed and remembered by her husband, children, grandchildren and extended family.
Also surviving are a daughter, Jan (and spouse Rick) Gilson, Frazeysburg, Ohio; two sons, Pastor Al (and spouse Sharon) Edgington, Charleston, S.C., and Dr. Tom (and spouse Linda) Edgington, Leesburg; grandchildren: Kipp, Charis, Codi, Carli, Callie, Nate and Ryan; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, in-laws, friends and acquaintances. She was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Mallone.
Services will be at noon Friday at Shawnee Chapel Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation, Lima, with Pastor Al Edgington officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima.
Calling is one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral home.
