Maria C. Nyenhuis, of 1915 E. Fort Wayne St., Warsaw, died at 10:49 p.m. April 26, 2009, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw, after a brief illness.

She was born Aug. 15, 1925, in the Netherlands, to Bart and Mary Zents. On April 22, 1952, she married Henry Nyenhuis, who died Sept. 20, 1998.

She grew up on a farm in Gelderland Province and immigrated to the United States with her husband and their first three of six children in 1957. Their first home was in Mishawaka. In 1959, the family moved to Warsaw. She was a homemaker and worked with her family on their farm near Atwood. In later years, the family ran a grocery store in Atwood. She was an active member of Sacred Heart Church, Warsaw, where she performed volunteer work in the school and church office. She found friendship in Bible Study, Young at Heart and Rosary Altar Society. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and other family members. She was a Big Ten basketball fan. She took pride in the flowers that she grew in her yard. She was an excellent cook and always made sure that her guests felt welcome.

Surviving are six children: John (and spouse Becky) Nyenhuis, West Lafayette; Frances (and spouse Mark) Majcher, Rockledge, Fla.; Ivonne (and spouse Mark) Zimmer, Indianapolis; Lucy (and spouse Jerry) Brown, Noblesville; Mary Ann (and spouse David) Dozer, Corvallis, Ore.; and Elsie (and spouse Michael) Thoma, Lafayette; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jan and Theo Zents, both of the Netherlands; and three sisters, Ans Zents and Ada Wormskamp, both of the Netherlands, and Wilma Veldman, South Bend. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Bertus and Jos Zents and a sister, Riek Nijenhuis.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Church, Warsaw. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

Calling is from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, 2290 Provident Court, Warsaw, with a rosary service at 7:30 p.m.
