ROCHESTER – Margaret E. Jones, 83, of Rochester, was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away at 12:25 a.m. Aug. 16, 2013, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne. Born June 15, 1930, in Glasgow, Ky., she was the precious daughter of James and Ova Bunch Word. On May 28, 1949 in Frankfort, she married the love of her life, Kenneth C. Jones, who soon became her best friend. He died Feb. 24, 1988. Together they shared life's adventures for over 38 years while raising three wonderful children, Nancy, Janet and Joe. The family tree continued to grow with the added blessings of eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Growing up as one of four children, she shared her childhood with a sister, Christine, and two brothers, Bill and Jim. In May 1948, with great pride, she earned the distinction of being named valedictorian of her graduation class at Jackson Township High School near Frankfort. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church for more than a half century. She was a skilled legal secretary serving in several law offices in Rochester over the years. A competitive card player, she also enjoyed the game of bridge-a-rama. An accomplished pianist, she played for her personal enjoyment. Gardening was another forté as she annually planted flower gardens that enhanced the landscape of her home. Each spring brought on the planting of the vegetable garden with a bountiful harvest for the family. As outdoorsmen, she and her husband enjoyed taking the family camping. Many memories were made sitting around the campfire under the starlit summer skies. An avid angler, she could be seen casting over the sparkling waters of Nyona Lake with Kenny at her side. The two also enjoyed fishing for salmon in northwest Indiana. They also enjoyed many fishing expeditions to Lake Michigan. More recently she visited some of the lakes, near Seymour, with her son, Joe’s, family. She is lovingly remembered by her daughters: Nancy Baker (and spouse Ted), Warsaw, and their children, Erica Potter (and spouse Gerald), Waterford, Mich., Jaime Snyder (and fiancé Jason Ladd), Warsaw, Heather Stockman (and spouse Nate), Warsaw, and their children Isaiah and Jaycie; Janet Los (and spouse Chet), and their children, Chet Los Jr. (and spouse Eleacia), Chelsea Los, and Chandler Los, all of Syracuse; a son, Joseph (and spouse Ronda) Jones and their sons Kurt and Brett Jones, all of Seymour; brother and sisters-in-law, Jerry T. Jones, James E. Jones, Jerine Brittain and Mary Pawloske. She was preceded in death by her parents and Preceding Margaret in death were her parents; a sister, Christine Buttrey; and two brothers, Jim Word and Bill Edwards. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St., Rochester, with Pastor Jeff Pfeifer officiating. Burial will be next to her beloved husband Kenny at Rochester IOOF Cemetery.
