First Friday is this weekend in downtown Warsaw. The event, titled “March Into History,” is Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. There will be a John Dillinger reenactment at 6:30 and 7 p.m. sponsored by City of Warsaw and The Dane & Mary Louise Miller Foundation. In April 1934, John Dillinger – arguably the most infamous bank robber of his day – raided the police station armory in Warsaw and made off with guns and bullet-proof vests. This event helped set off an intense and prolonged manhunt for Dillinger and his gang across several states that ultimately led to his death in Chicago a few months later. Dillinger robbed the jailhouse armory in Warsaw, in what is now the Old Jail Museum. People are encouraged to get badges and whistles at the First Friday information booth Friday night during First Friday. The booth is at the corner of Center and Buffalo Streets by the new city hall. They then will go into the new city hall on Buffalo Street to find Dillinger re-enacted by a local Warsaw resident. Chief Chicosee Indian who owned this area for a time will be celebrated. There will be Chief Chicosee Indian crafts for kids at downtown merchants. There will be Indian crafts for children at Reinholt’s Town Square Furniture, Himalayan Salt Creations, Indiana Antique Company and Dennie House. Indiana Antique Company is celebrating its first anniversary with a drawing for eight courtside tickets for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants game, numerous door prizes, store-wide sales and free popcorn. Kosciusko County Historical Society will host a downtown historical trivia tour. People can pick up their packets Friday on the Kosciusko County Courthouse lawn. Several downtown merchants will provide information on the history of their building and store sales will be going on. Humanity & Hope United Foundation will be on hand to collect clothing donations for children and adults to support those in need in Honduras.
