Maple Leaf Seeks Tax Abatement

Posted
Kosciusko County Council agreed Thursday to hold a public hearing on a tax abatement request from Maple Leaf Farms.

Attorney Steve Snyder, representing the Milford-based duck company, submitted the request, which is for a 10-year abatement on personal property and real estate taxes.

Snyder said Maple Leaf Farms is closing a large portion of one of its facilities in Yorkville, Wis., and transferring the work to its facility in Milford. Snyder said the move will add 81 new jobs with an annual payroll of $1.7 million to the Milford plant, and include $1.8 million in building improvements and $2.1 million in new equipment purchases. Snyder said the company will modify its building on the east side of CR 200E.

"What it will do is allow them to operate a new shift," Snyder said.

If granted, the tax abatement would allow the company to capture their personal property and real estate tax money to use for the improvements and expansion.

The public hearing on the requested abatement is scheduled for July 10 at 7 p.m. in the Old Courtroom.
