Kosciusko County commissioners made way Tuesday for Maple Leaf Farms to take a request for a tax abatement to the county council.
Attorney Steve Snyder, representing the Milford-based duck company, submitted the request, which is for a 10-year abatement on personal property and real estate taxes.Maple Leaf Farms is closing a large portion of one of its facilities in Yorkville, Wis., and transferring the work to its facility in Milford. Snyder said some of the new jobs will be filled by staff from the Wisconsin facility, but most will be new local hires.
Last month, Snyder said the move will add 81 new jobs with an annual payroll of $1.7 million to the Milford plant, and include $1.8 million in building improvements and $2.1 million in new equipment purchases. Snyder said the company will modify its building on the east side of CR 200E.
If granted, the tax abatement would allow the company to capture their personal property and real estate tax money to use for the improvements and expansion.
The county council will hear the request for the abatement at their Aug. 14 meeting at 7 p.m. in the Old Courtroom.
