Manchester, Whitko Tie For Second At Turtle Town Relays

Posted
CHURUBUSCO – The girls track teams from Manchester and Whitko tied for second place in the black division at the Turtle Town Relays at Churubusco High School Saturday.
Better than half of the Lady Squire points came courtesy of junior Rae Bedke. She finished first in the 800, 1600 and 3200 and was the anchor leg on Manchester’s winning 4x800 relay team.
“Rae Bedke is that rare, special breed of athlete that doesn't come along often,” said Manchester head track coach Julie Cassell.  “She ran four miles worth of races, had great times, and came away with four firsts.  That’s remarkable.”
Bedke got a lot of help in scoring points.
“Bailey Sewell dominated the discus with second place ten feet back,” Cassell said. “In addition, freshmen Jaelyn Webb, Sarah Rohr, Carsyn Howard, and Katie Barker picked up points in a really tough meet.
“Jaelyn's steady improvement shows just what a tough competitor she is.”
Kaitlyn Reed accounted for 36 of Whitko’s 76 points in the meet. She won the high jump and long jump, and had second-place finishes in the 100 and 200. Suzanne Sickafoose was second in the 200 and fourth in the 100. Brigit Nemitz was second in the 3200 and third in the 1600 for the Lady Wildcats.
Manchester and Whitko will get together to compete again, along with Lakeland Christian Academy and Northfield, in South Whitley Tuesday.
