Manchester Tennis Team Wins Peru Sectional

Posted
PERU — The Manchester girls tennis team captured its sixth sectional title Friday at Peru.
Taking on the Peru Lady Tigers in the championship match, the Manchester Lady Squires won 3-2, advancing to the Culver Girls Academy Regional Tuesday.
“It was an amazing team win,”  Manchester co-coach Tim McLaughlin. “It was our fifth match in five nights and for the girls to be able to fight thru this match against a very good Peru team is simply a testament to their never quit attitude and real desire to not give up.”
At the regional, the Lady Squires face the hosting CGA Lady Eagles.
A win over CGA would put the Lady Squires in the regional championship Wednesday against either Plymouth or Warsaw.
Against Peru, Manchester got a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 win from Megan Metzger at No. 2 singles.
At doubles, Manchester’s No. 1 team of Natalee Cain and Katie Peden won 6-3, 6-2 and the tandem of Amy Collett and Tawni Kincaid were 7-5, 6-3 victors on the No. 2 court.
“It was quite a week for the Squires,” McLaughlin said. “We got great contributions from all five positions over the three-match sectional. Everyone contributed to the wins on different nights. It was truely a team effort.”
