NORTH MANCHESTER – In a clash of two of the top teams in the Three Rivers Conference, Manchester edged Wabash 3-2 at the Squires’ courts. The win marked the third straight season the Squires have topped Wabash on the tennis courts. At No. 1 doubles, seniors Noah Cain and Matthew Pegg lost just two games in a straight-set win. “"They relied on strong serving, superior returns, and the confidence of being a top team in this region," said Manchester head coach Joel Eichenauer via e-mail. Senior Max Karg earned a straight-set win at No. 1 singles, and Manchester clinched the team win at No. 2 doubles when junior Heath Dierks and freshman Luke Donathan won in straight sets. "Max didn't play his best tennis tonight, but battled through and succeeded,” Eichenauer said. "Heath Dierks and Luke Donathan started strong and went up 4-0. Wabash rallied for 3 straight games before the Squire duo would win a pair of game to take the set 6-3. In set two, Heath communicated well and held serve each time. Luke stroked the ball well and hit many net shots." Manchester will take a 5-4 record, and a 3-1 mark in the TRC, into its conference match with Whitko in South Whitley Thursday.
