WABASH – The Manchester Lady Squires saw their season end in first-round sectional play Tuesday, as they were swept by Three Rivers Conference rival Rochester. In the opening round of the Class 2A sectional at Southwood High School, the Lady Squires fell 25-17, 25-14, 25-15. “I was proud of the way we played tonight,” Manchester coach Rebekah Haynes said via email. “Rochester is a competitive team, and we kept with them well in Game 1. We outplayed them in the second half of Game 2, coming back from a 17-1 hole. They fought, but it’s been a long season with a few hurdles we weren’t expecting. We did well with what we’ve got, and I’m looking forward to another year with these returning players.” Kendra Binkley led Manchester with six kills, while Sydney Day had three and Corrie Osborne two. Kendra Auler led the Lady Squires in assists with eight, and in digs with eight. Cierra Carter chipped in with seven digs, while Emma West and Ali Casper had six each. With the win, Rochester advanced to Saturday’s 11 a.m. semifinal against Cass. Tournament play at Southwood resumes Thursday at 6 p.m. when Oak Hill squares off with Northfield, followed by Wabash and the host school. Cass and Rochester open play Saturday, followed by a matchup of Thursday’s winners. The sectional final is slated for Saturday at 6 p.m.
