NORTH MANCHESTER – Manchester Community Schools Superintendent Tony Cassel announced his resignation recently.
MCS expects its educators to demonstrate a high standard of professionalism in their roles as administrators, teachers and staff, according to a provided news release. Recently, Cassel made a comment that did not fully align with those expectations. Cassel acknowledged the situation and accepted the school board’s initial disciplinary recommendation, according to the release.
After reflection, Cassel chose to go beyond that recommendation and step down from his role as superintendent, believing this decision is in the best interest of the school corporation and its continued success.
The school board has already begun the process of identifying the next superintendent. In the interim, Dr. Jeff Stephens will serve in this role. Stephens currently serves as Manchester Community Schools’ chief financial officer and has prior experience serving as interim superintendent, stated the release.
Cassel was hired in 2023 as superintendent of Manchester Community Schools and replaced Kyle Wieland as superintendent. Wieland announced his resignation after the school corporation confirmed it was scammed out of nearly $1.2 million.
