Following a Heartland Career Center update presented by Mark Hobbs and Bryan Evans, the board welcomed Cristina Rider as guidance counselor for Manchester Intermediate School and Manchester Junior-Senior High School.

Business manager Jeremy Markham reported on cash balances for various accounts as of Aug. 31. The Education Fund totaled $1,409,581; the Operations Fund totaled $963,199; the Debt Service Fund totaled $502,612; and the Rainy Day Fund totaled $355,345.

Markham also outlined enrollment statistics for the last seven years. In 2013 the district’s enrollment was 1,622; in 2017 it was 1,585; as of spring 2020, it was 1,489. In public schools like MCS, with a loss of students comes a loss of funding.

The board discussed possible cost-saving measures in a lengthy discussion. A video recording of Tuesday’s meeting is available on the MCS YouTube channel.

The next meeting will be at 6 p.m. Oct. 13.
